This is my second post of the short story unit. I chose to do a Animoto video. My video shows the story through pictures and words. I really enjoy using Animoto because for one it is fun to do and also it really shows the story good. When using Animoto the user can put their own personal touch on the video. It is totally a custom video from beginning to end.

‘Video Games Make Society Less Violent’

            ‘Video Games Make Society Less Violent’ by Brandon Nadeau, is about how crime rate has decreased since video games got popular in 1995. Jack Thompson believes it has increased though and will stand by his word.  Although Thompson isn’t all that correct with the crime rate being a new record low every year.

            Video games do not increase crime rates.  

           

            Video games show children or teenagers that it isn’t cool to kill someone. Brandon Nadeau, author of ‘Video Games Make Society Less Violent’, says that “Since video games became a mainstream industry, around the time Playstaion came out in 1995, the violent crime rate has decreased singnificaly” (273). This is obviously very striking to some people, but no to me. It really isn’t surprising at all, because I play shooting games, and I never to myself that would be cool to do in real life. Actually people that watch violent movies are more amped up then gamers. Gamers were asked to play a game on hours on end. Nadeau said that the results “showed the players were more friendly and amicable, as well as slower to rile, than before the game was played” (273). When the researchers did the test with the violent movies the viewers were the exact opposite than the games. This tells me that when the gamers are involved with the game, or control it , makes it easy for them to see it isn’t cool to take someone’s life away, even if it is only a video game.

Summary

     'Video Games Make Society Less Violent' by Brandon Nadeau, is about how crime rate has decreased since video games became popular in 1995. Jack Thompson believes it has increased though and will stand by his word. Although Thompson isn't all that correct with the crime rate being a new record low every year.

     Brandon Nadeau, author of  'Video Games Make Society Less Violent' says, " When i shoot someone in a game, i don't think, 'That would be cool to do'"(274). When he states this he is trying to tell the reader that when he plays video games he doesn't get an anxiety to do similar things as they do in the game.

     Brandon Nadeau, author of 'Video Games Make Society Less Violent' says, "The same parents who hate these games are the ones who are buying them for thier childern. I guess they should be thanked for being hypocritical. After all, they are helping create a less violent society"(274). I think this very funny and also very true because the parents that give their opinion on these games wouldn't be able to do so if they didn't spend their money on these games for their childern.

Introduction

   Hi, I'm Robby Dosier. I go to Carbondale Community High School. I'm a freshman in Mrs. Emily Hayes English one class.We are currently in the poetry unit. My next six post after this will be poems that I wrote my self. Some about my favorite thing in the world and that's basketball. The others about the people that give me the confidence to succeed and that's my family.
   My favorite poem would have to be the one about my grandpa. My grandpa was my role model before he died and he still is. He succeed in everything he did and he is a great person to look up to. My least favorite poem was my first one, iBall. I didn't not like it it was just that I liked it less than my other ones. I have learned so much about poetry this unit it is unbelievable. But I think the most important thing i learned was that i actually enjoy reading and writing poetry. In this unit I have learned that I'm a pretty good poet, and I'm glad i discovered this talent of mine.

guys are playing
in another gym.

Failing

When I lose a game.
I failed.
It is just my competitive nature.
If we lose,
I did something wrong.
Therefore I failed.

But what is different with me,
If I fail, I'm doing whatever I can to not repeat.
You may see me struggle,
But never give up.

A grandpa to me.
A husband to grandma.
A father to my Dad and Uncle.
And a friend to so many others.

Trip Poem; Texas

Last weekend.
I went to Texas.
Dallas, Texas.

Mexican Restraints and Steakhouses.
That is Texas.

I went for basketball.
We won three games,
and lost one.

We lost a very important one.
It made us eliminated.

After the game we swam,
and then waited for our flight.
 Texas was very fun.

Family

Family.
Always there for you.
No matter what.
They give you advice.
They give food and shelter.
If you need something they will find a way to give it to you.

Sometimes it isn't about what they give you.
Sometimes it is just their presence that matters.
Sometimes all they can give you is their love and support.
And most of the time that's all you need.

A Day in the Life

iBall

I wake up with a ball in my hand.

I go to school with a ball in my bag.

I go to all my classes with anxiety.

I have anxiety for the end of the day.

I get the ball back in my hands.

I have it until sundown, or until go to sleep.

I then start all over again.

Dystopian Novel

    The Maze Runner is a dystopian novel because of what is going around with the place. This place a maze where some people took kids and place in there. They need to find there way out of the maze. The only problem is that they had tried for so many years and they still didn't find a way out. When they finally found it more than 20 kids died during the escape. When the sun came out they saw that the world was burnt buy the sun and that a virus spread around the world. And the ones who are still alive are scare of getting the virus. Some people are immune to it but the governments use them as lab-rats to experiment with them to see why they are immune.  
     Thomas has spent a lot of time in the process of recovering, both in mind and body, but he and the rest of the Gladers have change by the problems and the responsibility they have. In a world where there are no parents, teachers, and adults can't be trust. The Maze Runner is an allegory for growing up, its pains, and the discomfort it causes. As a teen turning into an adult but not only by age, but by the way he acts. His choices and decisions aren't always simple. They grow increasingly complex, require sacrifice, and sometimes don’t pay off the way we’d hoped they would. Thomas is aware that he holds the final key to their problems in his memory and that the wrong decision could lead to all their deaths. It’s a tough choice, with a big sacrifice.

     The satire in the maze runner is that WICKED takes all of the kids that are immune to experiments with them and even kill them. Wicked exaggerate on their techniques. They make the immunes pass trough a lot of things like seen a best friend died, falling in love and the worst seen that love one die. They want to see how and why doesn't the virus affect their brain. They will do anything; even kill them, to see why they are immune to the virus. They even asked Thomas, the main character, if he wanted to donate his brain for the people, so they can find a cure.

   Many people found out that The Maze Runner is an allusion to the hunger Games trilogy. They both have teenagers trying to survive; trying to win a battle that they think they are never going to win. Only that in the maze runner more than one survive and in the hunger games only one will survive. They both have people watching their moves. And both arenas were made by humans so they can find and/or entertain some one else. They almost have the same ending Katniss destroying the Capitol and Thomas destroying the headquarters of WICKED.
 

Twisted Conflct

     In the book Twisted there is a lot of conflict. This conflict even almost caused suicide. The conflict that lead up to this was a lot of bullying and a lot of negative people in Tyler’s life. His whole life he has been bullied by this guy named Chip. At the vary beginning of the book Chip says to Tyler, “So nerd boy.” (Anderson 13). This is Chip greets Tyler. Its always in a very rude manor. He gets treated like this by a lot of people. The other person was his father. He basically told Tyler that he was useless.This quote is from a part in the story where Tyler's Dad would not let Tyler go to the homecoming football game. ".And Tyler? Mow that goddamn lawn." (Anderson 99). This is what happened almost every time Tyler or his sister Hannah wanted to do something.
     The second conflict that really grew from the first conflict was Tyler's intention to kill him self. Tyler did not feel wanted and it got to the point where it was just him and the gun and thankfully did not pull the trigger. "I had the gun in my mouth and my finger on the trigger." (Anderson 240). When Tyler's Dad, on of the people made Tyler think about this, asked what stopped him and Tyler said, "I looked in the mirror and realized that i was already dead. I let you kill me one piece at a time, start when i was, what? Eight years old? You killed your self then you came after us." (Anderson 241). This is what can happen to pretty much any one in a bad situation. It happened to Tyler and he chose to fight and confront his problems but unfortunately some people can't fight it and pull the trigger. 

Review of "Bullied"

Yesterday in class we watched the movie "Bullied". I really enjoyed the movie. I liked it because it was a true story and those people made history. They made it known to everyone that watched the film that bullying was wrong. Also they made it known to people that kids sometimes aren't the ones that have the problem. Like in the movie the boys were the ones that bullied him but none of the administrators did anything about the boys bullying him. He got bullied one time so bad that he had to have surgery to help his injuries. The worst part about that story is not one kid got punished.
I just read an article called "100 Days of School, 100 Days of Bullying". It was a very interesting article because it is a teacher writing about bullying that goes on at the school where he teaches. something that he said was very interesting. He said that studies show that kids who feel uncomfortable at school have trouble learning. So not only are these bullies ruining their self a steam but also their education. I think that is horrible because you go to school to learn not to get bullied.

Image Chef Picture

            I just made an image chef picture for my blog. I really like this program. It was one of the most user friendly program I have used. They give you so many options on pictures to use. Also they give you many different kinds of fonts to use. This is very helpful because you can really make it your own thing. Its all about how you want to customize it.

            I thought that my picture was very unique. I used the quote, “Can you slit my throat?” I used this because it kind of told the story by its self. I think it tells the story because Tyler isn’t very happy and this quote shows it because he told the paramedic to kill him. I used the tear drop as my picture because I think it represents sadness. In twisted Tyler is very sad. I used a grey background to tell that his life is just kind of boring.  I think my picture really represents the book twisted.

"Clothing Optional" Day

   In chapter 21 of Twisted, Tyler talked about how they had a “clothing optional” day. This is a day where a lot of starring goes on around the school. It’s a really awkward day for everyone in my opinion. I just think that people always dress appropriate. I think it’s nasty the way some people dress. If it’s boys sagging, girls there cleavage, or even a little more inappropriate parts of the body. Lets just be honest some stuff you shouldn’t show in public ever!

   I experience instances like this everyday. I see people who do get written up or really should for the way they dress. Honestly I think if u want to get noticed for dressing like that people won’t notice you at all because it’s just trashy. People who dress normal seem to get noticed more because they are normal. When people dress like this it usually ends up resulting into sexual harassment just because people who have those types of minds will do what they want to do with these girls. Did you know sexual harassment is against the law? Most of the time it is ignored because nobody thinks it will make out to anything. Well it does because if they can get them past sexual harassment then most of the time they get raped.

Josh Gunderson

            On Tuesday of this week, Josh Gunderson came and spoke to us about social networking and also things like sexting, and how you can avoid them. What he said was very interesting. He made it so there was a lot of humor because he is a comedian, but also got us to listen about the topic. He was telling us about how he has experienced with cyber bullying and what we can do to stay away from it. Everything he said was helpful to know me and I also think everyone in the freshman class. He gave us many examples of kids just like us that have got bullied and killed their selves. This really made me think about the topic because kids just like me are getting bullied to the point where they feel they should commit suicide. The stuff that some of the bullies do is just horrible, such as bully people over who they date, or how they dress, stuff that doesn’t even concern them. These bullies are essentially the ones that are killing these normal human beings who were just trying to enjoy life and be themselves.

          What Josh talked about is goes with what we are reading in are book Twisted. Twisted is about a boy named Tyler who is having trouble with a lot of things. His problems are at home and school. At home his father isn’t very happy with anything that he does. He goes to his community service, goes home plays on the computer until three a.m. then goes to sleep and wakes up at five and starts over. In the first part of the book they go to Tyler’s dad’s bosses how for a business party and causes and accident at the party and Tyler’s family are very unhappy with him. At school Tyler has been bullied since fifth grade. It’s fair to say Tyler doesn’t really enjoy life right now. Just like what Josh talked about how bullying someone can ruin their life. That’s why I enjoyed his presentation because we are reading a book that is basically everything he talked about.
